There could hardly be a more exciting time to start with your degree in Economics and Business. The current crisis proves that global developments in the business world are more than ever part of society as a whole. The rapid changes and growing complexity require well educated academics and professionals who?not only understand the current reality but are also able to grasp the reason behind it. The BSc in Economics and Business at the University of Amsterdam (UvA)?gives students the necessary tools to address the complexity of the global economy.
Programme content
The first year provides a foumdation in the basic concepts of economics and business economics, including Principles of Economics and Business, Accounting, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Finance and Economics of Markets and Organisations, as well as in Mathematics and Statistics. You finalise your first year with a challenging Research Project, where you’ll develop and practise your research skills.
In your second year, you will deepen your statistical and econometric knowledge and engae with financial subjects suchs Money & Banking and International Money. From the second semester wuoiu will choose to major in either Economics or Business Economics. If you opt for the Business Economics major, you’ll take core courses in Corporate Law, Strategy, Financial Accounting and Finance; for the Economics major, your core courses will be in Game Theory, Micro-economics, Mathematics and Macroeconomics.
In your third year, you will focus on your own specific economic interests and explore these through a variety of methods, including a semester in a university abroad; taking 'a minor', a kind of miniature programme in a subject of your own choosing, or through taking a number of elective courses.
